Department of Atmospheric & Oceanic Sciences
University of Colorado
Postdoctoral Research Associate Position
A research associate is needed at the Department of Atmospheric and
Oceanic Sciences, at the University of Colorado, to conduct innovative
research in the area of understanding Indian Ocean decadal climate
variability. The overall goal is to investigate the causes for Indian
Ocean decadal SST variability and its associated atmospheric variability
in the coupled climate system, with particular focus on exploring the
role of Indian Ocean internal processes (versus external forcing) in
generating the variability. The approach is to combine observational
analysis using advanced statistic techniques (e.g., linear inverse
modeling) with modeling experiments using coupled global climate models
(e.g., NCAR?s Community Earth System Model). The successful applicant
will work with the Principal Investigator (Weiqing Han) in collaboration
with scientists at NOAA (Matt Newman, CoI; Mike Alexander, collaborator)
and NCAR (Jerry Meehl and Aixue Hu, collaborators). Applications should
include Curriculum Vitae with a publication list, 3 names of references,
and a cover letter that describes previous and current research
activities and qualifications for the postdoc research advertised at the
University of Colorado.
At the time of appointment, the successful candidate should have a Ph.D.
degree in ocean, atmospheric, climate sciences, or a related field.
Statistical data analysis skills are required and modeling experience ?
particularly for running coupled climate models - is preferred. Initial
appointment is for two years with possible renewal for another year,
contingent upon performance and availability of funds. Inquiries may be
directed to Weiqing Han (<whan@colorado.edu)>. Applications will
continue to be accepted until the position is filled. The position may
start in the fall of 2015 or on a mutually agreeable date.
Applications for this position must be submitted through
<http://www.jobsatcu.com:80/postings/106705>.
Applicants must complete the Faculty/Exempt Professional and EEO Data
(application) form. University of Colorado is an Equal Opportunity
Employer committed to building a diverse workforce.

Tenure-track Assistant Professor with a focus on Natural Hazards,
Oregon State University
The College of Earth, Ocean, and Atmospheric Sciences (CEOAS) at Oregon
State University invites applications for a full-time (1.0 FTE),
12-month, tenure-track Assistant Professor with a focus on Natural Hazards.
We seek a colleague who will conduct externally funded research on
natural hazards and their spatial interactions with human lives,
livelihoods, and infrastructure. Candidates whose research focuses on
the fundamental relationships among exposure, sensitivity and the
resilience of coupled human-environmental systems subject to natural
disasters are particularly encouraged. Research foci could include
development of fundamental methods in environmental security; emergency
management; vulnerability assessment; hazard impact mitigation, and risk
perception among others. The successful candidate will teach graduate
and undergraduate courses, and advise graduate students on topics such
as the geography of disaster, emergency management, and spatial planning
for natural hazards. This position will maintain interdisciplinary
collaboration and scholarly output involving geography of natural
hazards applications to topics in geography, marine resource management,
and earth, ocean, and atmospheric sciences; advance educational equity
in a multicultural setting; and have a commitment to teaching and
advising excellence.
Appointment: There is an expectation that the successful candidate will
secure funding to support 60% of his/her full-time salary.For a
research-focused position, it CEOAS policy to confer indefinite tenure
