The University of Birmingham's Institute of Forest Research (BIFoR) currently have five PhD opportunities listed with the Central England NERC Training Alliance (CENTA) (see project titles below). CENTA is a consortium of research intensive Universities and research institutes that are working together to provide excellence in doctoral research training.
CENTA studentships are for 3.5 years and are funded by the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC). In addition to the full payment of their tuition fees, successful candidates will receive the following financial support.
* Annual stipend, set at £14,057 for 2015/16
* Research training support grant (RTSG) of £8,000
Applications from UK and EU students are welcomed, however students from outside of the EU are not eligible. Full tuition fees and an annual stipend in line with UK Research Councils are available for UK and EU applicants who qualify for NERC awards. The application deadline is 25 January 2016.
To follow is a summary of the opportunities. Click on the weblink for each opportunity for more details.

2-year post-doc at the Institute of Oceanography and Fisheries in Split,
Croatia
Key-words: meteorological tsunamis, warning networks, numerical ocean
and atmosphere modelling, climate research
Project led by Jadranka Sepic (IOF Split).
Meteotsunamis are several meters high long-ocean waves generated by
small-scale air pressure disturbances. These waves occasionally cause
substantial damage to coastal towns at a number of worldwide locations
(US; Spain, Japan, Australia, ...). Meteorological tsunamis are
especially destructive at the Adriatic Sea.
Main objective of the project is to build a reliable prototype of a
meteotsunami warning system based on real-time measurements, operational
atmospheric (ALADIN; WRF) and ocean modelling (ROMS; SCHISM) and real
time decision-making process, using knowledge acquired from analysis of
historical destructive event. Top meteotsunami research scientist from
several Croatian and worldwide institutions are involved in the project.
Strong international collaboration is expected.
We are looking for a post-doc with a background in one of the following
fields: real time research and warning networks, atmospheric sciences
(atmospheric gravity waves, atmospheric numerical modelling, climate
simulations), ocean sciences (meteo-tsunamis, tsunamis, sea level, ocean
numerical models), pattern extractions.
More information can be obtained from Jadranka Sepic (sepic@izor.hr).
Position is opened until filled.

The Departments of Geography & Geoscience and Physics & Astronomy at the University of Louisville invite applications for a tenure-track position in atmospheric science at the Assistant Professor level, beginning Fall 2016. This is a joint appointment for which we seek a person who will thrive in an interdisciplinary setting and develop an externally funded research program in the broad area of tropospheric processes, including but not limited to mesoscale field studies, severe weather, urban climatology or climate-land dynamics, with proven skills in integrated-system approaches. In addition, the successful candidate will develop and teach courses that support our GS-1340 undergraduate program, such as a course on severe weather, and help expand undergraduate and graduate-level offerings in both departments. The choice of primary department will be made in consultation with the Dean. A Ph.D. in a relevant discipline is required. Please visit the website www.louisville.edu/jobs<http://www.louisville.edu/jobs> to apply and upload the application package using posting number XXXX. The application must contain a cover letter, CV, a research plan and teaching interests; please also arrange for 3 recommendation letters and college transcripts to be sent to: Atmospheric Science Search Committee, Attn: Prof. T. Dowling, Department of Physics and Astronomy, University of Louisville, Louisville, KY 40292, USA (Email: tedowl01@exchange.louisville.edu<mailto:tedowl01@exchange.louisville.edu>). The application deadline is February 19, 2016. The University of Louisville is an Affirmative Action, Equal Opportunity, Americans with Disabilities Employer, committed to diversity and in that spirit, seeks applications from a broad variety of candidates.
