Three Tenure Track positions

Finnish Meteorological Institute has introduced a tenure track programme for service and research personnel, intending to provide a consistent competitive and attractive career path. FMI seeks talented, motivated academics who have completed their doctoral degree, preferably within the last ten years, and have since accrued academic and other relevant qualifications. Successful applicants will be employed as tenure track professors. The duration of the initial employment contract is three to five years, depending on the background and experience of the appointee. Continuation on a second fixed-term contract depends on successful fulfilment of predefined criteria; after which a permanent position as research professor may be offered. Academic qualifications and experience will be considered. Additional merit will be given for demonstrating the ability to acquire research funding, utilization of research in the development of services, working abroad, and international exposure.
FMI will allocate three tenure track positions to areas which are strategic for the future success of the institute. Applicants are expected to have a significant contribution to these strategic areas. FMI is announcing open tenure-track positions addressing the following themes:
1. Statistical postprocessing to improve numerical weather forecasts and/or development of extreme weather forecasting
2. Renewable energy production
3. Cryosphere and its long-term trends and/or modelling of cryospheric processes
Requirements: applicant should possess a PhD in atmospheric science or related subjects.
Salary: 4500-6000 € per month, determined from the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate.
Applications must include the following, written in English: CV, list of publications, summary of previous experience and merit addressing the skills required for the theme selected, and any supplementary material relevant to the application. In addition, applicants are expected to provide a statement (max. two pages, in English) describing how they intend to develop the research in their chosen field, if appointed.
