CPCM JOB POSTINGSCenter for Prototype Climate Modeling/NYU Abu Dhabi Institute/United Arab Emirates 1 Senior Research Scientist: Position for a Senior Research Scientist (SRS) is open at the Center for Prototype Climate Modeling (CPCM), New York University Abu Dhabi, UAE. The new SRS at CPCM will be responsible for spearheading a broad scientific effort in global atmospheric modeling to investigate the interactions of the hydrological cycle and atmospheric flows, in close collaboration with PI Andrew Majda, co-PI Olivier Pauluis and research advisor Boualem Khouider. The SRS research effort includes the implementation and evaluation of the stochastic multi-cloud model for tropical convection in operational codes such as CAM, CESM and HIRAM, the development of new diagnostic tools for convection in the tropics, and the analysis of simulations for long range weather forecasting and climate change scenarios. The SRS will aid the PI and co-PIs in: developing the overall scientific mission; identifying and hiring related postdoctoral and support staff; designing and running numerical experiments for a broad swath of related problems, and publishing results in peer-reviewed journals, and disseminating results at international scientific conferences. The SRS will work closely with the PI, co-PIs and senior scientists
2 Postdoctoral Researchers in Cumulus Parameterization (Group Code: AMBK)
Positions are available for 2 postdoctoral researchers. While talent and an exceptional research record in all related fields are paramount, we especially encourage applications from researchers with expertise in long range weather forecasting and large-scale climate modeling and diagnosis, especially as it applies to the tropics and subtropics and implementation of parameterization. Postdoctoral Research Fellows will work closely with the PI, Andrew Majda, CPCM research advisor, Boualem Khouider, co-PIs and senior scientists.
2 Postdoctoral Researchers in Atmospheric Modeling (Group Code: OPAR)
Positions are available for 2 postdoctoral researchers in atmospheric modeling. The successful candidates will join a modeling effort to study the interactions between convection and the large-scale atmospheric circulation in the Tropics, with a focus on the Indian Ocean. Their research effort includes (1) analyzing the response of monsoonal circulation to climate change in global atmospheric model (HIRAM) and (2) downscaling experiment with a high resolution atmospheric model (WRF) to study the local response of convective systems to external changes. The Postdoctoral Research Fellows will be supervised by Prof. Olivier Pauluis and Senior Research Scientists Ajaya Ravindran.
1 Postdoctoral Researcher in Ocean Modeling ( Group Code: SSZL)
Position is available for 1 postdoctoral researcher in ocean modeling. The successful candidate will join a small team of scientists engaged in a broad effort to understand, model and parameterize the interaction between biogeochemical processes and ocean turbulence, with an emphasis on the Indian Ocean. The candidate will focus on (1) enhancing our understanding of mesoscale and submesoscale processes, especially in their effect on the transport of biogeochemical tracers, and (2) developing and implementing new parameterizations of the effects of submesoscale processes on biogeochemical tracers in coarse resolution general circulation models. We strongly encourage applications from researchers with PhDs in geophysical fluid dynamics, applied mathematics or theoretical physical oceanography, and especially from those with experience in high-resolution regional ocean modeling and eddy parameterization. The project will be supervised by Senior Scientist Zouhair Lachkar, Prof. Shafer Smith and Dr. Marina Levy.
These positions are available immediately and will remain open until filled. Initial appointments will be for one-two years, with excellent possibility of renewal, contingent upon positive annual reviews. The salary will be competitive, commensurate with experience, and will comply with NYUAD guidelines. The annual salary will depend on qualifications and experience. All positions will be based in Abu Dhabi, but researchers may spend up to 2 months per year at the Courant Institute in New York City. NYU Abu Dhabi offers very substantial benefits, including allowances for housing, transportation, and home visits, in addition to health insurance and an attractive retirement plan. Successful completion of a security check is required prior to employment.
To apply, please email Asma Kamal, Center Manager (cpcm.nyuad@nyu.edu). Applicants must mention the position applied for (Senior Research Scientist Or Postdoctoral Associate) and the applicable code indicating the relevant research group ( AMBK Or OPAR Or SSZL) in the subject line. Separate applications must be submitted to apply for more than one research group. Mentioning your Skype ID under contact information is encouraged. Your application should be a single PDF document containing:
· Cover letter· CV· 1 (one) page summary of relevant projects you have worked on, and· Contact information of at least 2 (two) references

Dear Colleagues,
We have a fully funded PhD studentship available in the Department of
Geography, at the University of Sheffield,
'Climate History of the Indian Monsoon 1750-1870'.
In this PhD, meteorological observations recorded in logbooks of the
East India Company (EIC), and documentary climate
reconstruction from weather observations within the India Office Records
and Newspaper Collection, will be used to
reconstruct past monsoon variability. Analysis of accounts of societal
responses to climate events in the latter records
will be used to investigate societal adaptation to climate extremes.
This is an interdisciplinary project, involving both climate and social
science. This PhD will therefore suit applicants
with experience of, or the capability to develop skills in,
interdisciplinary work, for example with a background in Environmental
Science, Geography, Modern History, or Quantitative Social Sciences.
Supervisors
Dr Julie Jones, Department of Geography, University of Sheffield
Prof. Grant Bigg, Department of Geography, University of Sheffield
Prof. David Nash School of Environment and Technology, University of
Brighton
Dr George Adamson, Department of Geography, King's College London
This project is funded through the University of Sheffield Research
Resource Fellowship, which will cover the cost
of UK/EU tuition fees, and provide an annual, tax-free maintenance
stipend at the standard RCUK research
rate for three years. Overseas students will need to fund the
difference between the UK/EU and overseas fees.
Contact for informal enquiries: julie.jones@sheffield.ac.uk.
The closing date for applications is Monday 22nd February 2016.
Interviews will be held on Friday 11th March 2016.
More information, including how to apply, can be found in the link below.
