Job vacancy at the Johann Heinrich von Thünen-Institute
The Thünen Institute of Climate-Smart Agriculture, Federal Research
Institute of Rural Areas, Forestry and Fisheries, invites applications for a
Technician or Engineer Position for meteorological measurements in
Germany and South Africa
The position (full time) will be initially available until July 31,
2017, and should be filled as soon as possible.
The position asks for technical support in planning, preparation,
conducting and evaluation of field measurement campaigns to investigate
greenhouse gas exchange within the frameworks of the two projects
'Reducing GHG emissions under rape seed cultivation' (FNR funded) and
ARS AfricaE (BMBF funded).
Duties:
- Installation and maintenance of automatic micrometeorological stations
for long-term measurements of micrometeorological data, climate-relevant
trace gases, and their exchange between ecosystems and atmosphere
- Conduct and organization of field campaigns, interaction with project
partners, and supervision of local assistants at various field sites in
Germany and South Africa
- Installation of automated data acquisition and teleprocessing systems
- Collection, backup, review, and processing of data from continuously
operating devices to measure greenhouse gas fluxes
- Quality control and assurance of field measurement systems
- Component inquiries and purchase orders
Profile:
- Technician (State certified engineer) or B.Sc./B.Eng. in electronics,
mechanics or environmental measurements in the fields of environmental
engineering, process engineering, mechatronics, electrical engineering,
mechanical engineering or comparable qualification
- Experience in setup and modification of meteorological measurement
devices
- Willingness and aptitude to participate in long-term field campaigns
under difficult logistic and climatic conditions
- Utmost interest in scientific questions and methodological and
technical development work
- Team spirit and personal engagement
- Proficiency (fluency) in English (assignments in South Africa)
Depending on qualification, payment will be according to the German
state regulated public service salary scale TVöD 9a to 11. Part-time
employment is possible.
