Job Purpose: To manage and grow the PML portfolio of Satellite Earth Observation (EO) data services, coordinating, overseeing and managing a team engaged in the ongoing operation and future development of production systems and services.
Key Deliverables:
1. Manage and grow EO services at PML primarily within the European Copernicus services.
2. Develop EO services with a view to commercialisation via PML Applications Ltd.
3. Manage and mentor a team to ensure maximum performance and delivery of project outcomes.
4. Manage EO technical developments and chair technical development meetings, prioritising and coordinating common development strands across EO projects and ensuring that developments potentially applicable to the operational systems meet the standards.
5. Act as the point of contact between EO group/computing-support to ensure effective communication.
Experience and Eligibility Requirements:
· A track record in project management and ability to describe and deliver sound project management methodology;
· Experience in commercial development of services;
· Either a degree or equivalent experience in a relevant discipline;
· Experience in people management;
· Excellent communication skills;
· Experience of large scale data processing ideally batching-processing clusters, or HPC or cloud usage;
· Sufficient understanding of the concepts of coding; systems and networks to be able to manage others.
2. Marine Earth Observation Applications Scientist: Senior Appointment

Job Purpose: The EO group at PML has an excellent international reputation for marine EO research, application of research results and operation of services derived from the research, primarily in the area of Ocean Colour. PML is seeking to appoint a senior scientist to develop and grow marine EO applications in an area complementary to existing PML strengths. The postholder will undertake research into, and develop, EO applications which would be commercialised through PML Applications Ltd. The area of EO research should be relevant to PML priority research topics.
Key Deliverables
1. Develop and grow marine EO applications in an area complementary to existing PML EO strengths through writing successful commissioned research proposals.
2. Develop EO applications with a view to commercialisation via PML Applications Ltd.
3. Publish high-quality, high-impact science in the peer-reviewed literature.
4. Manage commissioned research projects and associated resources including staff.

· A track record in winning and managing significant commissioned research projects in marine Earth Observation

Pending approval of external funding, the Faculty of Mathematics and
Natural Sciences, Department of Geography of the Humboldt University
Berlin invites applications for a scientist position (100%, temporary
for 3 years) starting earliest June 1st, 2016. Salary is according to
German state wage agreement for scientific staff (E13 TV-L HU). After
all social security and tax deductions annual net salary ranges between
28.000 and 32.000 EUR depending on social status.
The successful applicant will work in a national initiative developing
and evaluating a microscale urban climate model. The task will be to
implement a radiation scheme for the model's building-resolving mode and
an urban canopy parametrization scheme for the model's coarse mode. The
project is organised as a collaboration with partners from Hanover,
Offenburg, Karlsruhe, Cologne, the Free University of Berlin and the
German Weather Service.
Applicants must hold a MSc or PhD in geography or neighbouring fields
with core area in either physical geography, computer sciences,
meteorology, physics, mathematics, engineering or similar. Ample
knowledge of urban climate or radiation exchange modelling as well as
extensive experience with programming, preferably in Fortran, are
prerequisites. Excellent mastery of English in both written and oral
form is required. Sufficient knowledge of German is advantageous.
