Hello,
I am recruiting a postdoc / research associate to develop new
measurements of radiocarbon in atmospheric methane. International
applicants welcomed.
Best wishes,
Heather Graven

<http://www.jobs.ac.uk/job/ANQ286/research-associate-in-atmospheric-trace-gas-measurements/>
Research Associate in Atmospheric Trace Gas Measurements
Space and Atmospheric Physics Group, Department of Physics
Imperial College London, South Kensington Campus
Salary £33,860 - £42,830 per annum
Fixed term: three years
We are seeking a highly motivated researcher for a three-year position
available from June 2016. The researcher will work with Dr. Heather
Graven to develop measurements of atmospheric methane, conduct
fieldwork, and analyse data to estimate and partition methane sources.
The position will be supported by an ERC Starting Grant Award.
Rising atmospheric methane concentration is the second most important
contributor to climate change, but methane emissions and their
partitioning into different sources such as the livestock and fossil
fuel industries currently have large uncertainties. This project aims to
develop methods for atmospheric observation-based studies of methane
emissions using radiocarbon in methane. The post holder will lead
laboratory-based observational method development and field deployment
in the UK and Ireland. S/he will conduct data analysis and contribute to
atmospheric methane inversion modelling with other members of the team.
The post holder will be expected to contribute to the Department's
teaching activities up to approximately half a day per week during the
academic year, as appropriate. The position comes with funds for travel
and computing equipment.
You will have a PhD or an equivalent level of professional
qualifications and experience in atmospheric and/or carbon cycle
science. It is essential to have experience with atmospheric trace gas
measurements and / or carbon cycle science. It is a requirement to have
knowledge of data analysis techniques in their application to
atmospheric data and also knowledge of Matlab, Python, R or other
language used in data analysis and/or instrumentation. A strong
background in atmospheric and/or carbon cycle science is also essential.
Experience measuring radiocarbon and/or stable isotopes in methane or
other species would be desirable as would experience developing new
observational methods; experience using Picarro trace gas analysers or
similar instruments; experience in laboratory and/or field settings;
knowledge of designing/programming small electronics.
You must have a creative, enthusiastic approach to research, with strong
written and verbal communication skills and a track record of scientific
publication. The ability to develop and apply new concepts, techniques
and methods, and to work independently and show initiative are essential.
Please contact Dr. Heather Graven with any queries about the position
via h.graven@imperial.ac.uk
