The Collaborative Research Centre 990 / CRC 990
(<http://www.uni-goettingen.de/efforts>) at the Georg-August-Universität
Göttingen is offering a position in the Scientific Project A07 /
Modelling biogeochemical processes in rainforest transformation systems
in Sumatra (Indonesia) at the Bioclimatology group.

The position is based in the university city of Gottingen, Germany,
includes short visits to Indonesia, and forms part of a large,
multi-year project investigating the effect of land-use changes on
multiple dimensions in a representative forest – rubber – oil palm
landscape in Indonesia.

Work will focus on modelling biogeophysical and biogeochemical processes
using the Community Land Model (CLM).

The position will be limited to 31.12.2019 and should be filled by 1st
October 2016. The salary is in accordance with the German public service
salary scale, corresponding to 100% TV-L E13 level and currently
equalling 39.80 working hours per week.

Your duties
Tasks will include data compilation, model development (e.g.
representing carbon and water cycles of rubber plantations in CLM),
calibration and validation of existing and new parameterizations in CLM
for the key land cover types (forest, oil palm, rubber), simulation of
various land-use change and climate change scenarios, analysis and
interpretation of model results, presentation of results nationally and
internationally, publishing in peer-reviewed journals. A high degree of
collaboration with other working groups/researchers is expected.

Your profile
• Candidates must have a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in meteorology,
biogeochemistry, physics, mathematics, geography, plant ecology,
environmental or agricultural sciences, or related disciplines by
appointment start date.
• Research experience with land surface models, e.g. the Community Land
Model, or other types of earth system models
• Ability to develop representations of coupled terrestrial ecosystem
processes and familiarity with methods to benchmark models against a
variety of observations are preferred
• Expertise in scientific programming (e.g. Fortran, …)
• Scientific creativity shown by a track record of original and
innovative research on a related topic
• Proficiency in English
