Post Doctoral Fellowship
Earth System Agricultural Modeling at Cornell University (Ithaca, NY, USA)

The postdoctoral fellowship focuses on fundamental questions regarding
the interaction between the biogeochemistry of the nitrogen cycle within
agricultural systems and impacts on climate and air-quality. It
addresses how agricultural processes that couple the atmospheric and
terrestrial nitrogen cycling will change in the future with changes in
climate and increases in food demand.

The successful candidate will work on a collaborative, interdisciplinary
project relevant for predicting human impacts on biogeochemistry and
climate. The research involves simulating various aspects of the
nitrogen cycle and its climate impacts within an Earth System model. The
project is collaborative between the Earth and Atmospheric Sciences
Department, the Department of Biological and Environmental Engineering
and the Crop and Soil Sciences Department at Cornell University.

The successful applicant will demonstrate experience with numerical
modeling and will have a record of publications in peer-reviewed
literature. The successful applicant will hold a Ph.D. in atmospheric
science, engineering, environmental biology, ecology or a related field.
Experience with large model simulations is highly desirable, as well as
familiarity with the analysis of large data sets.

Applicants should send an email directly to Peter Hess at
<pgh25@cornell.edu>.

Applications will be processed until position is filled. Cornell
University is an Equal Employment Opportunity/Affirmative Action
Employer and we strongly encourage applications from women and minorities.

Post Doctoral Fellowship Opportunity in Paradise. The University of Hawaii Department of Atmospheric Sciences located in Honolulu, Hawaii has an opening for a post doc. The position is part of a Federal and State initiative to improve trajectory and dispersion modeling of the emission plume emanating from the Kilauea volcano. The position is funded at $60,000 annual stipend for two years. Renewal of the position after one year is subject to program review. Since Kilauea has been erupting continuously since 1983, there is a potential that the position will continue after year two as a research position.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. in meteorology (or in computer science, with a BS in meteorology). Preference will be given to candidates who have experience in running a dispersion model (e.g., HYSPLIT, CMAQ, or AERMOD, etc.) or high-resolution weather model (e.g., WRF-Chem). Experience in atmospheric chemistry and a demonstrated facility for and an interest in scientific programing are also plusses.

To apply, email a CV, and the names and contact information for three supervisory references (telephone and e-mail addresses) to: Professor Steven Businger, businger@soest.hawaii.edu. The position is open until filled.
