*Postdoctoral Position in Climate Dynamics, Department of Applied Physics
and Applied Mathematics, Columbia University*
The Department of Applied Physics and Applied Mathematics (APAM) at
Columbia University invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research
Scientist position in climate dynamics. The successful candidate will work
on an NSF-funded project to improve our understanding of Arctic climate
dynamics using models, observations and theory. Candidates must have a
Ph.D. in atmospheric science or other climate-related field. The position
will be jointly located at APAM in New York, NY and at the Lamont-Doherty
Earth Observatory in Palisades, NY, in the research group of Lorenzo
Polvani, Karen Smith and Michael Previdi.
Starting date can be as early as January 1, 2017 and the position will
remain open until filled. This is a full-time, 2-year position, with
continuation contingent upon funding.
Applicants should send a curriculum vitae, the names of three references,
and a 1-page statement of research interests to Professor Lorenzo Polvani (
LMP@COLUMBIA.EDU).
Columbia University is an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer.

Columbia University: Cloud Physics Postdoctoral Research Scientist
The Center for Climate Systems Research in the Earth Institute of
Columbia University invites applicants for a post-doctoral research
appointment with focus in cloud physics. Appointment is full-time for a
period of 2-3 years and will be based in the NASA Goddard Institute for
Space Studies (GISS) office on the Columbia University campus in New
York City.
The Postdoctoral Research Scientist will work with a group of modelers
and observationalists at NASA GISS and Stony Brook University. The
Postdoc Research Scientist will focus on one or two of the following
research subject areas: Size-resolved (bin) microphysics scheme
development for shallow warm and cold clouds with an emphasis on
collision-coalescence; bulk microphysics scheme development for
cloud-resolving and climate models with an emphasis on ice nucleation
and ice properties; Dynamics-embedded microphysics at the intersection
of high-resolution models and observations; Observational constraint of
climate model cloud microphysical properties and weather state or
regime-based analysis of climate simulations and observations.
Applicants should indicate interest to focus in one or two of the
aforementioned research subject areas.
