The Departments of Geography at San Diego State University (SDSU) is seeking applicants who wish to pursue a Master of Science (MS) degree in Geography starting the Fall 2017.
The successful applicants will work with Dr. Fernando De Sales on climate modeling projects with focus on generating current and future climate scenarios to study precipitation variability, wildfire impacts, land-use land-cover change, and carbon flux in different regions.
Applicants must possess a background in Earth sciences, Atmospheric Sciences or a related field. Ability to work with different computer software is essential. Strong skills in oral and written communication are also required.
To apply, please visit

URGENT: Climate related fellowship at University of Pennsylvania
Nov 30th deadline
Dear colleagues,
I am writing to advertise a climate change postdoc fellowship opportunity with an urgent Nov 30th deadline - which might be relevant for your recent graduates, final year PhD students and researchers/postdocs in your groups or department. I am looking for interested potential postdocs to apply - in collaboration with me - in the next two weeks, for a NatureNet Science two year fellowship.
The topics are listed at <http://www.nature.org/science-in-action/naturenet-science-fellowship-application-guidelines.xml>
If you are interested in this opportunity, please send me a CV and any relevant papers ASAP to establish a common interest, and so that I can provide support for your Application - and help determine a best match advisor at the Nature Conservancy for you - by the Nov 30th 2016 deadline.
As a climate modeler and oceanographer, I have very broad interests intersecting with this call such as: climate impacts and protection of aquatic ecosystems; evolutionary dynamics applied to aquatic ecosystems; global carbon sources/sinks; resilience to climate change (aquatic, land, atmosphere); extreme events; coastal habitat response to climate change and restoration, large scale climate signal emergence and predictability, oceanography and global carbon cycling; development of critical climate indices, geoengineering, integrated assessment modeling, global hydrological change and potential links with oceans. Potential co-advising from faculty in the Biology Dept, Medical School (environmental health), Engineering or the Wharton business school will be considered, depending on the topic chosen/of interest.
Please note the applied, practical nature of this climate science call, so this is principally for those of you who want to work on halting/adaptation to climate change at least for part of their work (though theoretical work should of course be weaved into this). Please help distribute to anyone interested.
Relevant Grant details:
<http://www.nature.org/science-in-action/naturenet-fellows/index.htm>
"The Conservancy expects fellow appointments to start between May 1 and September 1, 2017. Eligible individuals will have completed their doctorate within five years before the application close date of November 30th, 2016. Applicants who have not yet completed their doctorate must clearly indicate on the application the date the degree is expected. Each fellow will receive a non-negotiable annual salary of $50,000 plus benefits, with the postdoctoral position expected to run for two consecutive years. In addition to the stipend, each fellow receives an annual travel budget of approximately $5,000 and an annual research fund of approximately $20,000. Second-year renewal of the fellowship is contingent upon satisfactory progress and contribution to the collective program."
Irina's personal note for applicants: One goal for me is also to increase the presence of climate-related research in my University and bring new topics into the University. Hence, collaborators on your research project outside Penn - e.g., with your previous research group - on your proposed projects also welcome if you want them (though not necessary, of course).

Postdoctoral research associate in regional climate change and its impacts study, CEESMO at Chapman University
A postdoctoral position is available in the Center of Excellence in Earth Systems Modeling and Observations (CEESMO) at Chapman University. The successful candidate will join an interdisciplinary research team that conducts research on regional climate change and its impacts on various sectors such as agroecosystem, hydrological cycle and wildfire. The successful candidate will support the research team in topics related to regional climate, weather, and remote sensing as well as their applications to the fields such as agricultural modeling, wildfire danger, ecosystems, hydrology, remote sensing, and regional climate modeling.
A qualified applicant should have experience in the analysis of observed and model data and/or modeling of regional climate. Applicants must have a Ph.D. degree in atmospheric sciences, environmental sciences, ecosystem science, hydrology, or a related discipline. Having experiences in satellite data processing and applications is highly desired.
The position is initially for a one‐year appointment and, subject to funding availability, can be renewed. Evaluation of applications will begin in December 17, 2016. The position will be available from January 1, 2017 and will remain open until filled.
Applicants must include a CV, statements of research and addresses of 3 references by email to ceesmo@chapman.edu<mailto:ceesmo@chapman.edu>
For further information, contact Prof. Menas Kafatos, kafatos@chapman.edu<mailto:kafatos@chapman.edu> or Prof. Seung Hee Kim sekim@chapman.edu.
