University of Oxford - Smith School of Enterprise and the Environment

Research Fellow in Climate and Risk Assessment for Adaptation Policy
Ref: LD-11-007

Grade 8 (?36,862-?44,016)

The Smith School of Enterprise and the Environment<http://www.smithschool.ox.ac.uk/>, of the University of Oxford<http://www.ox.ac.uk/>, seeks to appoint a Research Fellow to develop a programme of research in the quantitative assessment of climate- and weather-related risk. The Smith School is a global interdisciplinary hub conducting research on public and private sector solutions to environmental, resource management, and sustainable development challenges. The School enables leaders in public and private enterprise to make informed decisions, and to develop and implement solutions through practice and policy.

The focus of this Fellowship is on regional modelling for climate and weather risk assessment. It is expected that interdisciplinary research aspects will link into such areas as liability and the attribution of harm, social and corporate responsibility, and environmental law, with solutions focused around informing mitigation and adaptation policy. It is expected that the Fellow will work with Professor Myles Allen, a SSEE Associate recently appointed to a Chair in Geosystem Science to develop research across the University into the attribution and prediction of the impacts of anthropogenic and natural climate change. The line manager will be the Director of the Smith School, Professor Sir David King.

The Appointee would be expected to have experience in regional climate modelling, with research interests that complement the Smith School's climate and development research. She or he would take on the role of climateprediction.net Science Coordinator, providing scientific oversight of existing experiments.
