Ongoing position
The Bureau of Meteorology?s Aviation Weather Service provides aviation users with meteorological information necessary for safe and efficient civil aviation operations. The service includes the provision of observations, forecasts, warnings and advisories, and is provided within the technical and regulatory framework of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO).
The National Manager Aviation and Defence Services will be required to address and advise on critical incident events by briefing Bureau Executive management, industry counterparts and politicians.
We are seeking a highly qualified and experienced manager to lead the Aviation and Defence Weather Services Section in the delivery of weather and warnings program to maximize value to Australian community, and the Aviation and Defence Industries. This is a senior leadership role which reports to the Branch Head whose key functions include: high-level negotiation through industry consultative meetings, collaboration and liaison with regional, national and international counterparts, and the ongoing certification of aviation weather services to the AS/NZS ISO 9000 quality standard.
The successful candidate will be expected to make major contributions to management and leadership of the work are and possess the following attributes:
Have deep technical understanding of key aspects of meteorological science.
Reliability and maturity in judgement in professional and management matters.
High level of skills in areas of leadership, business planning, and resource and staff management.
Be an excellent communicator and have demonstrated an ability to build sustainable alliances and partnerships across multidisciplinary teams from both within the Bureau and outside organiszations.
