Vegetation Modeller
Based in Wallingford, Oxfordshire
We are looking for an enthusiastic and committed vegetation modeller to join our successful research team based at Wallingford. The team maintains and develops the Joint UK Land Environment Simulator (JULES, http://www.jchmr.org/jules/ ). This community model has a wide variety of uses including climate modelling and impacts.
The primary roles of this open-ended post will be to:
1. Evaluate and develop biophysical and ecosystem dynamical modules within the JULES land surface model
2. Explore feedbacks between vegetation and climate, regionally and globally
3. Produce papers in the peer-reviewed scientific literature and at international conferences detailing major research findings
4. Contribute to the overall development of the JULES model for the UK land surface community
The focus of the research is improving the representation of vegetation within the JULES land surface model across different ecosystems. Key areas for current development are the linkages between Nitrogen and Phosphorus and the carbon cycle, and the representation of ecosystem dynamics. The research is predominantly funded by the European Union and the Natural Environment Research Council.
