We are looking for an experienced, enthusiastic and self-motivated
scientist willing to join water@leeds and work across interdisciplinary
water research groups. The position offers the chance to develop research
links between the School of Geography and the Institute for Climate and
Atmospheric Science at Leeds.

You will have expertise in at least one of the following: integrated water
resource management, hydrological modelling, or the coupling of
atmospheric and land-surface water models. You will hold a PhD in an
environmental field allied to water science and have developed a track
record of research funding and world-class publications.

We seek an individual with strong project management skills, coupled with
knowledge of earth/environmental science, to play a key role in the
development of a cross-faculty group within the University of Leeds. The
objective of the role is to integrate activity in climate and natural
hazard research and to promote output to external stakeholders.

You will play a key role in the development and implementation of the
delivery plan for the Climate and Environmental Services group. This
sector embraces environmental analysis and prediction for a range of
global phenomena and timescales, including the broad area of ?Natural
Hazards?. Key external partners in this sector are weather and climate
service providers, including the Met Office, and the reinsurance industry.

This sector is international, and you will be expected to travel within
the UK and overseas, as needed, in order to develop and sustain strong
relationships with external partners. One important partner in this sector
is the Met Office. Through a new formal partnership, established in 2010,
you will work closely with the Met Office to increase the commercial
exploitation of our work in climate services in particular. You will also
be involved in the development of new partnerships with industry in the
area of ?geohazards? (earthquakes, landslides, volcanic eruptions etc).

You will be educated to postgraduate degree level or equivalent, ideally
in Earth/Environmental Science. With excellent communication and
organisational skills, you will also have the ability to work under
pressure and to tight deadlines.

I.M. Systems Group, Inc. (IMSG) (<www.imsg.com>), a Federal Government
Contractor located in Rockville, MD is currently seeking to hire highly
motivated individuals to join our team efforts to support
NOAA/NESDIS/Center for Satellite Applications Research (STAR). IMSG
supports STAR in applied science research and development efforts in a
semi-research and semi-operational working environment along with U.S.
government scientists, visiting scientists, and other contractors. This
task is to support Development of the Microwave Integrated Retrieval
System (MIRS) for POES, DMPS, GPM, Megha-Tropiques, NPP, and JPSS
Applications. This position will be located in Camp Springs, Maryland.

Duties:
* Support lead NOAA/NESDIS scientist(s) in developing the methodology,
algorithm theoretical basis, and data product generation systems
* Provide guidance and scientific directions to improve MiRS
performances in the sounding, hydrometeors and surface retrievals.
* Lead writing and provide reviews, suggestions, edits, etc of
MiRS-related publications and progress reports
* Provide support to the MiRS meetings, reviews and other briefing to
upper management.

Qualifications:
* MS or above degree in atmospheric science or related field
* Extensive knowledge in passive remote sensing: sounding and imaging
using variational/physical algorithms
* Thorough knowledge in remote sensing and related phenomena
* Experience in radiative transfer;
* Familiarity with calibration/validation processes
* Familiarity with Eigenvalue decomposition (a plus)
* Experience developing algorithms for temperature, water vapor and
other atmospheric profiles (cloud, rain, ice), skin temperature, surface
emissivity
* Ability and/or motivation to implement new ideas
* Software skills in IDL and Fortran
* Publications in the field.

motivated Science Management Support staff to support NOAA/NESDIS/Center
for Satellite Applications Research (STAR) on applied R&D and Research
to Operations (R2O). IMSG supports STAR in applied scientific research
and transition from research to operations (R2O) in a semi-research and
semi-operational working environment along with U.S. government
scientists, visiting scientists, and other contractors. The location of
this position is Camp Springs, Maryland.

STAR is the science engine of NOAA/NESDIS. It maintains and develops a
wide range of operational and experimental remote sensing data product
algorithms as well as satellite sensor calibration and validation
(CAL/VAL) and data processing capabilities for the current and next
generation environmental satellites mainly from U.S., while it is also
working with agencies such as NASA, other NOAA agencies (such as
NOAA/NESDIS/ESPC, NOAA/NWS/NCEP), as well as international satellite
agencies to collaborate on environmental satellite data processing and
products generation, including environmental monitoring data products
(for land, atmosphere and ocean) from current (e.g. in POES and GOES
programs) and next (e.g. in NPP, JPSS, and GOES-R programs) generation
satellites that have critical importance for weather forecasting,
natural hazards warning, climate change detection, and many other
applications.

Duties:

* Provide science and management support to NOAA government Subject
Matter Expert and IMSG Task Leader(s)
* Frequently attend science and product systems meetings related to
on-going and future U.S. environmental monitoring satellite programs
(held at NASA and/or NOAA facilities); summarize meeting notes and
update reports to document critical issues, progress and accomplishments
* Support planning, reporting, and coordination activities of
environmental satellite product development and Cal/Val teams

Qualifications:

* MS degree Science or Engineering, or BS degree with sufficient working
experience
* System engineering and QA experience highly preferable;
* Science background on satellite remote sensing for environmental
monitoring (for land, atmosphere, and ocean) is a plus
* Well organized, focus on details
* Strong oral and written communication skills
* Excellent command on Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project and
other commonly used presentation/documentation/scheduling software
* Team player
* U.S. citizen

The ARC Centre of Excellence is a 7-year centre supported primarily by
the Australian Research Council. The Centre is hosted at UNSW, and
involves Monash University, Melbourne University, the Australian
National University and the University of Tasmania as Partner
Organizations. Multiple Collaborative Organizations are also involved,
including the Federal Department of Climate Change and Energy
Efficiency, the NSW Department of Climate Change, Environment and Water,

We are seeking a proactive, dynamic and suitably experienced individual
to fill a pivotal, role within the centre. The successful candidate will
be responsible for

? Undertaking the development of a national graduate program in climate
system science in collaboration with partners from the Centre of
Excellence in Climate System Science. This includes teaching parts of
the program

? Undertaking the Implementation of the national graduate
program using appropriate technologies such as Evo, ACCESS grids etc to
enable widespread take-up of the program

? Facilitating an annual
Graduate Conference/workshop providing hands-on training in Climate

partners to ensure that the Graduate Program in Climate System Science
is consistent, compatible and well-integrated with programs at the
Centre of Excellence partner Universities

? Assisting the Centre of

The salary range for level B/C (Commensurate with experience) is
A$83,262 to $116,024 per year, plus 17% employer superannuation plus

The successful candidate will have a doctoral degree in a physical science or engineering with specialization relevant to the study of atmospheric pollution.

The overall project goal is to improve the understanding of dynamic particle/gas partitioning of semivolatile organic compounds (SVOCs) in the atmosphere. Tasks to be completed during the post-doctoral term will be focused in a laboratory setting and will involve measurements using real-time instruments (PTR-MS, AMS) and off-line techniques (solvent extraction, GC-MS). Knowledge of SVOC partitioning and mass transfer theory is desirable.
