Two Research Positions in Climate Services at Uni Bjerknes Centre, Bergen, Norway

Two 3-year research positions in climate services are available at Uni Bjerknes Centre, a department of Uni Research AS and partner of the Bjerknes Centre for Climate Research (BCCR), a collaboration between Uni Research, the University of Bergen, the Institute for Marine Research and the Nansen Environmental and Remote Sensing Centre.

Uni Research is expanding its activities related to Climate Services in Norway, Europe and several developing nations. We therefore seek to strengthen our staff with two researchers who will support the activities of the climate services laboratory at Uni Bjerknes Centre and who are eager to develop and extend climate services applications to a wider audience.

Duties include:
* Support the regional climate modeling activities of the Regional Modeling and Climate Services group. This includes running regional climate
models, processing climate data and writing reports.
* Communication with the partners and stakeholders in academia, industry, government and other climate-data users.
* Support activities in research projects run by scientists from Uni Research and the BCCR.

Applicants must have a PhD or equivalent level of experience in Atmospheric or Ocean Sciences, Physics, Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering or similar at the time of appointment.

Good communication and writing skills in English and a desire to engage in international collaborative research is essential. Experience with data analysis and visualization tools is also essential. Programming experience and experience working within a High Performance Computing environment is a plus. Previous applied use of and skills in regional climate modeling are requirements for the position. Experience with the WRF or REMO models is a great advantage.

Salary is decided by agreement. Uni Research AS has employee pension and insurance agreement. The successful applicant must comply with the guidelines that apply to the position at any time.

Further information about the position can be obtained from Dr. Michel d. S. Mesquita (michel.mesquita@uni.no, +47 55583818), Dr. Stefan Sobolowski (stefan.sobolowski@uni.no, +47 55583825) or Dr. Martin King (martin.king@uni.no, +47 55588115). For more information about Uni Research and BCCR, please refer to http://uni.no and http://www.bjerknes.uib.no.

Applications must be submitted by e-mail to Beate.Klementsen@uni.no. The application must include a cover letter addressing the position requirements, a complete overview of education and previous practice (CV), list of publications, certified copies of certificates and diplomas, as well as names and addresses of two scientific references.
Application deadline: February 15, 2012.

The application should be marked "12/662".
