The Air Quality and Climate Modeling Group at the Eurasia Institute of
Earth Sciences at Istanbul Technical University offers Master and PhD
positions to work on regional air quality and air quality/climate
interactions over the Eastern Mediterranean.
Different projects financed by the The Scientific and Technological
Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK) and the European Commission (FP7) are
currently starting on different topics:
-modeling mineral dust transport in the Eastern Mediterranean (TUBITAK);
-modeling air quality in present climate and future climate conditions over
the Eastern Mediterranean (Marie Curie FP7 project);
-improve anthropogenic emission inventory for Turkey (TUBITAK);
-impact of ship emissions on Istanbul (ISTANBUL DEVELOPMENT AGENCY);
The ideal candidate should have:
-a Bachelor/Master Degree in Chemistry, Physics, Environmental
Sciences/Engineering;
-a strong interest in Atmospheric Chemistry and Physics, Air quality and/or
climate change;
-good computer skills (Linux, FORTRAN, IDL, MATLAB, R) and previous
experience in atmospheric modeling would be an advantage;
-proficiency in english with good writing skills;
Support will be provided to foreign students by the Institute for living
and working in Istanbul (work and residence permit, accommodation, ...).
