The Biodiversity and Climate Research Centre (BiK-F) is a new interdisciplinary institute with the mission to carry out internationally outstanding research on the interactions of biodiversity and climate change. It has been founded by the Senckenberg Gesellschaft fuer Naturforschung, the Goethe-University Frankfurt am Main and others partners. The centre provides a new, dynamic research environment that integrates a variety of disciplines from both natural and social sciences. The Project Area E ?Data and Modelling Centre? invites applications for

Postdoc Modeler in Land-Atmosphere Interaction Project group E1 (Ref. #E37a)

We are seeking a researcher with special interest in feedbacks between atmosphere and vegetation. The research should focus on the identification of weaknesses in the representation and improvement of regional-scale physical processes in atmosphere-soil-water-vegetation system models. The modelling platform will be the regional climate model system COSMO-CLM (www.clm-community.eu), which is intensively used and further developed at BiK-F and in the Mesoscale Meteorology and Climate group at the Goethe-University.

Applicants should hold a PhD degree in a natural science discipline (e.g. Physics, Meteorology, Mathematics, ...) and have experience with atmospheric models. In addition to scientific independence, the ideal candidate should demonstrate originality of the research focus and excellence in communication skills. Excellent knowledge of the English language both in spoken and written as well as publications in peer-reviewed international journals are required.

Salary and benefits are according to public service positions in Germany (TV-H E 13). The Research Centre BiK-F advocates gender equality. Women are therefore strongly encouraged to apply. Equally qualified severely handicapped applicants will be given preference.

The contract shall start as soon as possible and will initially be restricted to two years. An extension beyond is envisioned, but depends on personal performance and the availability of funds. The duty station will be Frankfurt am Main, Germany.

Please send applications by mail or (preferably) e-mail, mentioning the reference of this position (#E37a), and including a cover letter describing your motivation to apply, a detailed CV, two references, and, if applicable, a list of publications, until April 28th 2012 to Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. V. Mosbrugger, Scientific Coordinator Biodiversity and Climate Research Centre, Senckenberganlage 25, D-60325 Frankfurt am Main, Germany. E-mail to Service and Administration: recruiting@senckenberg.de.

Further information: http://www.bik-f.de For scientific enquiries please write to Prof. Dr. B. Ahrens (e-mail: bodo.ahrens -at- iau.uni-frankfurt.de).
