In the research group Theory of Atmospheric Dynamics and Climate

at the Institute of Atmospheric and Environmental Sciences of the Goethe
University Frankfurt

there will be, on condition of final approval of the project proposal, a
vacancy for a

Postdoctoral Scientist (E13 TV-GU)

The appointment will be for three years. Optimal starting date would be
March 1st 2013.

Applicants should have a very good PhD in meteorology, physics, applied
mathematics, fluid dynamics, astronomy or a related field. Expected is a
strong background in theory and numerical modeling, and a capability for
scientific work in atmosphere dynamics. The specific research field
shall be the theory and modeling of the interaction between gravity
waves and solar tides. The successful applicant will address this issue
with the help of a newly developed ray-tracing code (Senf and Achatz, J.
Geophys. Res., 2011) which is to be coupled to a dynamic model for solar
tides (Achatz et al. J. Geophys. Res., 2008). An interest in the
theoretical basis of multi-scale wave modeling and the readiness to take
an active role in the further improvement of the corresponding tools
would be important.

Some information on the research group can be found under
http://www.geo.uni-frankfurt.de/iau/ThMet/index.html. It has a focus on
scale interactions in atmospheric dynamics, applied e.g. to large-scale
low-frequency variability or to gravity-wave dynamics. Middle-atmosphere
dynamics is another field of work. Inquiries should be addressed to
Prof. Dr. Ulrich Achatz (achatz@iau.uni-frankfurt.de).

Applications with the usual documents (CV, diplomas, list of
publications) should be sent by 31.10.12 to Prof. Dr. Ulrich Achatz,
Goethe-Universit?t Frankfurt, Institut f?r Atmosph?re und Umwelt,
Altenh?ferallee 1, 60438 Frankfurt am Main, Germany. Applications will
be considered beyond this date until the post has been filled.
