*Modelling aerosol-cloud interactions post-doc at the University of
Warsaw****
*
The cloud-modelling group at the Institute of Geophysics, Faculty of
Physics, University of Warsaw invites applications for a full-time
post-doctoral position.
The post holder is expected to join our team for up to 18 months, ending
at latest in spring 2016.
The successful candidate will join our team working on a novel
open-science-compliant software suite for research on aerosol-cloud
interactions (more information: http://foss.igf.fuw.edu.pl/). The newly
developed model compiles a detailed particle-based microphysics
(Super-Droplet method) with a state-of-the art fluid dynamics solver
within an open-source tool engineered using modern programming techniques.
The candidate is expected to lead an aerosol-cloud-processing project,
employing the tools developed at our group as well as (optionally)
employing other modelling software that the candidate is expected to
have experience with. In particular the candidate will have to apply our
new model to simulations of different modelling set-ups including the
RICO set-up describing trade-winds cumulus field.
We are seeking a candidate with background in computational atmospheric
science. Interdisciplinary experience that would contribute to bridging
aerosol/cloud micro/macro physics/chemistry will be appreciated.
Experience in co-operative programming, knowledge of C++ and/or Python,
and general knowledge of open standards and tools of applicability in
numerical modelling will all constitute additional assets.
The candidate is required to hold a PhD degree by the date of appointment.
The post is based in Warsaw, Poland. The project is carried out in
co-operation with partners from NCAR and ECMWF. A very good command of
written and spoken English is essential and the candidate can expect the
same from all members of the team.
The project and the position is fully funded by the Polish National
Science Centre (NCN). There are no constraints as to the nationality of
the applicant, although there are no relocation or home-travel funds
offered. In addition to a competitive remuneration (net salary of EUR
1200-1500), the post holder will have access to travel funds for
international meetings.
Please direct the applications and any other inquiries to prof. Hanna
Pawlowska (hanna.pawlowska@igf.fuw.edu.pl
<mailto:hanna.pawlowska@igf.fuw.edu.pl>). The applications should
include a CV detailing the candidate's experience and research track
record. A cover letter outlining the motivation and providing names of
two reference persons is also requested.
