We need a talented and imaginative scientist to carry out research on the role of the Atlantic Ocean Meridional Overturning Circulation (AMOC) in climate and climate prediction, as part of NERC RAPID-AMOC programme.
You will conduct climate model experiments, and analyse decadal climate predictions, in order to improve scientific understanding of how changes in the AMOC affect climate and the extent to which such changes and their impacts are predictable.

ECMWF currently have three vacancies at http://www.ecmwf.int/en/about/jobs/jobs-ecmwf
1. Scientist/Developer for the ERA-CLIM2 project VN14-20
This position is in the Reanalysis Section of the Research Department. The successful
candidate will be part of a team of scientists who work closely with others across the
organisation to develop, produce and disseminate state-of-the-art global reanalysis
datasets. These datasets combine a large variety of observations from many different
sources to provide a comprehensive description of the climate in the recent past.
ECMWF?s reanalyses are made available to external users for research, education, and
commercial applications. Reanalysis is a highly rewarding, multi-disciplinary activity
involving motivated people with a variety of scientific and technical skills.

Scientist/Developer in the Marine Prediction Section VN14-22
This position is in the Marine Prediction Section of the Research Department. The
successful candidate will work with a team of scientists to develop improved ocean data
assimilation methods that can be applied in the production of new generations of ocean
reanalyses. Ocean reanalysis activities at ECMWF are used for initializing operational
coupled forecasts and for climate monitoring. At ECMWF, ocean reanalyses are based on
the NEMO model and the NEMOVAR data assimilation system. A key component of the
ocean reanalyses is the processing of the input observations. As new observation streams
are made available by the observing agencies, the new ocean observations need processing
and evaluating before they can be used in the production of reanalyses.

Two Tenure-track Assistant Professor of Climate Science positions in the
Department of Earth & Environment at Boston University.
Summary: The Department of Earth & Environment at Boston University is
undertaking a major expansion in the field of climate change and invites
applications for two tenure-track Assistant Professor positions
beginning July 2015. We seek scholars trained in a wide range of
specializations including climate dynamics, recent climate history,
hydroclimatology, and climate impacts and adaptations. We encourage
applicants with interests in broader questions of the impacts of climate
change on society (water resources, food, health, energy, land use), as
well as those who complement existing strengths in remote sensing,
coastal processes, and landscape evolution. We anticipate hiring
additional scholars with expertise in climate change over the next
several years.
To apply: Please apply online at
<https://academicjobsonline.org/ajo/jobs/4439>, including a curriculum
vitae, a statement of research and teaching interests, and the names and
addresses of at least three referees. Review of applications will begin
on December 1, 2014. A Ph.D. at the time of appointment is required. The
successful applicant will be expected to supervise graduate research in
Ph.D. programs, teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and
maintain an externally funded research program. In addition, we seek
applicants whose research complements strengths in the Department and
around the University. For more information about the Department, see
<http://www.bu.edu/earth>.
Inquiries: Should you have questions about the position, please feel
free to contact Anthony Janetos, Search Committee Chair, Department of
Earth and Environment, Boston University, 685 Commonwealth Ave, Boston
MA 02215; email: <earth@bu.edu>. Women and underrepresented minorities are
particularly encouraged to apply. We are an equal opportunity employer
and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment
without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin,

PhD in Paleoclimatology, University of Bern, Switzerland:
"Climate teleconnections over the last Millennium"
A PhD position is open for an enthusiastic young researcher to work in
the Oeschger Centre for Climate Change Research, University of Bern,
Switzerland <www.oeschger.unibe.ch>.
The open PhD position is part of the Swiss SNF project ?Detection of
human and natural influences on the climate system: regional insights
from the past Millennium? and will be located in the Paleolimnology
research group at the Institute of Geography
<http://www.geography.unibe.ch/>.
The climate of the different continents is strongly influenced by
large-scale modes of climate variability, such as the El-Ni?o-Southern
Oscillation. Recent reconstructions of climate over the last centuries
show remarkable differences between the regions of the globe, suggesting
considerable variability in the strength of teleconnections.
This PhD will explore the climate teleconnections and their changes over
time during the last millennium based on proxy records from multiple
archives (tree-rings, corals, ice-cores, sediments, historical
documents). In conjunction with climate model simulations, the proxy
data will be assessed to provide dynamical explanations for climatic
variability between the continents over the last 1000 years.
We are looking for a highly motivated candidate with an MSc in climate
science, environmental sciences, geography, or similar, with a strong
background in geophysical processes and environmental statistics.
Interest in working with large data sets and using programming languages
(R, Matlab, Python, ?) is essential, as well as strong language skills
in English. We are looking for a dedicated team-player, who is motivated
to contribute to the good working atmosphere and the scientific success
of our work group.
The successful candidate will participate in the Graduate School of
Climate Sciences <http://www.climatestudies.unibe.ch/>. The graduate
school offers a broad range of educational and training opportunities
and a unique interdisciplinary network in the field of climate sciences
at the University of Bern.
Supervisor: Dr. Raphael Neukom
Co-Supervisor & group leader: Prof. Dr. Martin Grosjean
Salary: Swiss NSF PhD Fellowship (47,040 to 50,040 CHF, 100%).
The position is available from May 1, 2015 (negotiable) with duration of
36 months.
Review of applications starts on January 4, 2015 and continues until the
position is filled.
Informal enquiries should be made and applications should be sent to:
Raphael Neukom: <neukom@giub.unibe.ch>; +41 44 635 51 88 (Tue, Wed & Fri).
Applications are only accepted electronically in ONE single pdf file
including CV, letter of motivation, MSc certificate, names and addresses
of three referees.
Applications from qualified women are warmly encouraged.
