The Norwegian Polar Institute (NPI) in Troms?, Norway invites applications for a postdoctoral position in atmospheric physics and regional climate modelling within the Norwegian Young Ice project (N-ICE2015, www.npolar.no/n-ice2015<http://www.npolar.no/n-ice2015>). The work will be conducted in close collaboration with the Alfred Wegener Institute (AWI) in Potsdam, Germany. The position is a fixed-term position for a period of 2 years with a possible extension of maximum 2 years, depending on funding. The application deadline is 16 December 2014.
Work Content
The aim of the project is to increase our understanding of the contemporary sea ice regime in the Arctic Ocean and how it is affected by climate change. The goal of the position is to use a regional climate model together with a variety of observations of physical parameters in the region to evaluate the model's representation of processes important to the seasonal and long-term development of the region's climate.

N-ICE2015 consists of a six-month ship-based expedition in the area North of Svalbard, followed by a period of data processing, analysis, modelling and publication. The successful candidate is encouraged to participate in a three-week leg on board RV Lance in the Arctic Ocean.
Qualifications (see full announcement for further requirements)
In addition to a relevant PhD, applicants must possess a strong scientific understanding of climate processes and dynamics in polar regions and expertise in numerical climate modeling, and in analyzing complex model and observational data. An interest in atmosphere-ice-ocean interaction and boundary layer and cloud processes, especially in the polar regions, is an asset

General
The salary will be commensurate with the qualifications of the successful candidate, under the relevant Norwegian state salary code (currently 482,800-549,400 NOK per year). The position is available from 1st March 2015.
Annette Rinke from the Alfred Wegener Institute will primarily scientifically supervise the postdoc, with additional supervision by scientists at the Norwegian Polar Institute and other partners. The workplace will initially be Potsdam, moving to Troms? after about a year.
