Postdoctoral Fellowships
The Hatter Department of Marine Technologies
Leon H. Charney School of Marine Sciences | University of Haifa
Postdoctoral Scholar awards are offered to recipients of new or recent doctorates in the fields of engineering, physics, mathematics, oceanography, and geophysics, with a focus on wave propagation, nonlinear dynamics, acoustics, internal waves, mixing, and others. The competitive awards are designed to further the education and training of the applicant with primary emphasis placed on the individual's research promise. In order to be eligible for one of these awards, applicants must have received their doctoral degree within the past 3 years. Successful applicants must show evidence that they have completed all of the requirements for their degree before they begin their scholar appointment. It is also expected that candidates will have a command of the English language.
Successful applicants will be appointed initially for one year with a possibility to extend for another a second year. Selected scholars can initiate their study and research period any time after notification but before September 1, 2015. Recipients of the 2015-2016 awards will receive a competitive stipend. Applicants that have partial/full external funding are eligible to apply. Evaluation of candidates will start on January 1, 2015. UH-WHOI Postdoctoral Programme
Postdoctoral Scholar awards are offered to recipients of new or recent doctorates in the fields of engineering, physics, mathematics, oceanography, and geophysics, with a focus on wave propagation, nonlinear dynamics, acoustics, internal waves, mixing, underwater imaging, underwater sensing, biomimetics, underwater marine engineering, and others. The competitive awards are designed to further the education and training of the applicant with primary emphasis placed on the individual's research promise. In order to be eligible for one of these awards, applicants must have received their doctoral degree within the past 3 years. Successful applicants must show evidence that they have completed all of the requirements for their degree before they begin their scholar appointment. It is also expected that candidates will have a command of the English language.
Successful applicants are expected to spend 12 months at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI), and another 12 months at the University of Haifa (UH). They are expected to: (1) contribute to the overall research efforts of both institutes; (2) develop course materials for UH?s graduate programme; (3) serve as a teaching assistant for UH?s graduate programme, and strengthen its international scientific and technical capabilities. Each award recipient is provided with office/laboratory space in close proximity to the resident staff acting as general advisor throughout the award period. Although it is not a requirement, we encourage applicants to communicate with potential WHOI advisors prior to applying. Any staff member mentioned in the application will have the chance to review the application.
Scholars can initiate their study and research period any time after notification and before April 1, 2015. Recipients of the 2015-2016 awards will receive a competitive stipend during their stay at WHOI, and UH, plus a relocation allowance. Applicants that have partial/full external funding are eligible to apply.
