Thank you for forwarding this job advertisement to the list.
Kind regards

Postdoc Position in Meteorology / Extreme value statistics 50 ? 100%, University of Bern, Switzerland
The Climate Impact group at the University of Bern is looking for a postdoc in the fields of atmospheric dynamics, meteorology or applied extreme value statistics. The Climate Impact group is funded by the Swiss Mobiliar Insurance Company and our research focuses on extreme weather events in Switzerland. Of particular interest are the dynamics and the predictability of hailstorms, weather conditions leading to extreme precipitation and flood events, and the spatial correlation and temporal clustering of precipitation and discharge extremes, all with a focus on Switzerland.
The main responsibilities of the postdoc will be to carry out independent research in one of the fields described above, to supervise MSc and PhD students, to present the research results at international conferences, to publish in peer reviewed journals, and to assist with the teaching. The teaching load will be low to moderate.

To apply you should have either a PhD in meteorology, atmospheric dynamics or a PhD in applied statistics. Ideally you want to pursue an academic career and are interested in taking on your own independent research and supervision responsibilities.
The first contract will be for two years, but funding is available for an extension of up to 5 years (September 2020). An extension will be conditioned on working toward a habilitation thesis.
The preferred starting date is either Fall 2015 or Spring 2016.
To apply please send electronically a motivation letter, a short statement on your relevant experience and research interests, a CV, a list of publications, and the names and contact information of at least two referees to Prof. Olivia Romppainen-Martius (olivia.martius@giub.unibe.ch<mailto:olivia.martius@giub.unibe.ch>).
Applications will be reviewed until the position is filled, but preference is given to applications received before 1 August 2015.
For more information please contact: Olivia.martius@giub.unibe.ch<mailto:Olivia.martius@giub.unibe.ch>

Professor in the United States.) This permanent appointment will
enhance the Department?s programme in geophysics, climate physics and
the physics of the environment

We welcome applications from all individuals working within geophysics
and environmental physics, but candidates whose interests complement
existing strengths within the Department and Faculty will receive
particular attention. Such topics include cryospheric geophysics,
climate physics, atmospheric active remote sensing, and potential-field
geophysics.

Candidates are expected to have a Ph.D. in geophysics, physics or a
closely related field, a demonstrable commitment to innovative and
effective teaching, and the potential to conduct world-class research.

University of Liverpool, National Institute of Health Research?s Health
Protection Unit in Emerging and Zoonotic Infections.

We seek a student with an interest in the application of climate model
data for disease impacts.

Deadline 30th June 2015.

Climate change is a health risk for the U.K. Its effects will include
impacting on future distributions of mosquitoes and infectious diseases,
the introduction and establishment of new mosquito species in the UK,
and increasing the vectors? ability to transmit pathogens. The recent
discovery that the Culex modestus mosquito has re-established itself in
north Kent illustrates current vulnerabilities that the U.K. faces if
viruses such as West Nile virus were to be introduced.

We seek a student that can process data from climate models (GCMs and
RCMs) and shorter-range (seasonal) forecasts to lead to an operational
threshold and learn to run vector-borne disease models. You will develop
risk maps, for use by decision makers, of current and future threats for
a range of mosquito-borne diseases using both climate indicators and
mosquito-borne disease models.

You will be part of a vibrant vector-borne disease-modelling group that
looks at the impacts of climate on vector-borne diseases. The research
group works within both the School of Environmental Sciences and the
Institute of Infection and Global Health. You will interact with
partners at Public Health England, the Liverpool School of Tropical
Medicine and the U.K. Meteorological Office. You need to be highly
computer literate, with experience in using software such as MatLab, R,
Ferret and/or NCL etc., with Linux/Unix operating systems, writing UNIX
shell scripts, and preferably you will also have programing skills
(Python, C++, Fortran). It is likely your first/Master degree
combination will be in physics, mathematics, meteorology, relevant
environmental science, computing. Ideally, you should have prior
experience of processing climate model data sets.

Initial enquires should be addressed to Professor Andy Morse, School of
Environmental Sciences. eMail <A.P.Morse@liv.ac.uk
<mailto:A.P.Morse@liv.ac.uk>>
