PhD or Postdoc position at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), Germany
Within the framework of the Dynamics-aerosol-chemistry-cloud interactions in West Africa (DACCIWA) project, a 3-year PhD or 2.5-year Postdoc position is available at the Institute of Meteorology and Climate Research (IMK-TRO) at KIT in Karlsruhe, Germany.
Topic
The research focus is on boundary-layer dynamics in southern West Africa. In this region, the atmospheric boundary layer is characterized by various features, such as a nocturnal low-level jet (LLJ), deep daytime ABLs and various types of boundary-layer clouds. Low-level stratiform clouds frequently form during the night followed by a transition to stratocumulus, congestus and cumulonimbus clouds during daytime. Comprehensive measurements including in-situ and remote sensing observations at ground-based supersites as well as air-borne measurement will be performed during a field campaign in summer 2016 within the DACCIWA project. The successful candidate will analyse the measurements as part of a research team at KIT. The position is suitable for a PhD as well as for a Postdoc.
Education
For the PhD position a university degree (Diploma or M. Sc.) in Meteorology or Physics and for the Postdoc position a PhD in Meteorology or Physics are required. A background in experimental Meteorology and in the interpretation in measured data are preferred.
Requested Skills
Solid knowledge in programming with Matlab and Fortran and experience with Unix/Linux and Windows are necessary. Excellent communication skills in English and a strong interest in publishing results in peer-reviewed journals are required. For the Postdoc position we expect that the candidate already published successfully in peer-reviewed journals.
Begin of contract: 1 June 2016 or later
Application until: 31 March 2016
