Ph.D. position in Earth Observation
The Remote Sensing Laboratories at the Department of Geography,
University of Zurich invite applications for a Ph.D. position in the
wider area of Earth observation, to work on developing new approaches in
quantitative, global scale land surface process monitoring. In
particular, the position will focus on long-term vegetation trend
analysis and their coupling into process models for estimates of Net
Primary Production (NPP) and carbon cycling. The position will use
experimental and computational methods such as spatio-temporal
modelling, and trend analysis, amongst others. The Ph.D. will continue
developing methods as discussed in
<http://dx.doi.org/10.1111/j.1365-2486.2011.02578.x> and
<http://dx.doi.org/10.1016/j.rse.2010.10.011>.
The successful applicant will be based in Zurich and supervised by
Michael Schaepman
(<http://www.geo.uzh.ch/en/units/rsl/about-us/staff/schaepman-michael>)
and Reinhard Furrer (<http://user.math.uzh.ch/furrer/>) as well as
Mathias Kneub?hler and Rogier de Jong (daily supervision).
The Remote Sensing Laboratories (RSL) host several research groups
working on a variety of topics related to land surface processes,
including the use of SAR, LIDAR and imaging spectroscopy based
approaches. For more information, see <http://www.geo.uzh.ch/en/units/rsl>.
Upon start, applicants must have a completed masters degree in remote
sensing or any related science field, preferably with a certain degree
of specialization in remote sensing. Applicants must be able to pursue
data-oriented computational research (modelling) as well as experimental
approaches. Literacy in programming languages is an asset. A good
standard of written and spoken English is required.
We are looking for a highly motivated, enthusiastic and independent
person with a passion for science to join our team. We offer outstanding
working conditions, a high quality of life in Zurich, and an excellent
supporting environment.
Please send your application as one single PDF file (motivation letter,
complete CV, and names of 2 references) to Rita.Ott@geo.uzh.ch, no later
than April 10, 2012. For further questions, please contact
Rogier.DeJong@geo.uzh.ch or Michael.Schaepman@geo.uzh.ch.
